Soccer Player Profile: Cesc Fabregas

It is hard to imagine that Cesc Fabregas is just 24 years old. The young man seems to have been around forever. He was the captain of Arsenal football club. He has won the world cup. He has won the European championship and he is playing for the great Barcelona football club in Spain.

Early Life:
Cesc FabregasFrancesc “Cesc” Fabregas i Soler was born in Barcelona, Spain to Francesc Fàbregas, Sr.and Núria Soler on May 4 1997. His father runs a property business while his mother owns a medium scale pastry business. As a child, Fabreagas supported hometown club Barcelona and one of his greatest heroes was Josep Guardiola who was Barcelona captain and is now his manager at the same club. Cesc Fabregas began his soccer career at CE Mataro but after a while, he was snapped up by Barcelona. He joined La Masia, Barcelona’s famous academy at age ten and learnt the basics of soccer at this academy.

Arsenal Career:
Fabregas signed for Arsenal football club of England in September 2003. At that time, he was just 16 years of age. He was to stay in with the north London club for the next eight years. At the Barcelona academy, Fabregas had started out as a defensive midfielder. In Arsenal however, he was trained as an attacking midfielder and after the departure of Patrick Vieira to Juventus, Fabregas became one of the best central midfielders in the English game. He also became one of the most influential players in the Arsenal line up. He was appointed club captain by manager Arsene Wenger on November 24, 2008.

Playing Style:
At Arsenal, Fabregas had the opportunity to play with truly great soccer stars like Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira, Gilberto Silva and Ashley Cole. The exposure to these players served to develop his game and made Fabregas a technically sound player. At just 5ft 10 in, Fabregas was not a player who relied on physical strength. His greatest strengths include an eye for goal and the ability to make defense splitting passes. He also managed to score vital goals on some occasions. Most of all, Fabregas had great football vision and helped the team by providing assists to other players.

Move to Barcelona:
The transfer of Cesc Fabregas to Bacelona was probably one of the most drawn out soccer transfer sagas in current times. The player wanted to return home to Barcelona and the Spanish club needed his service. The only problem was that Arsenal was not keen on letting the player go. Eventually, Fabreagas signed for Barcelona on August 15 2011. Barcelona paid an initial fee of 29 million pounds sterling to get the player but this fee might rise to 33 million pounds with add-ons and other fees.

Barcelona Career:
It is early days yet at Barcelona for Fabregas but so far, it appears the young man has been able to blend very well with the team. With great players like Lionel Messi, Xavi Hernandez, Andreas Iniesta and Dani Alves as team mates, Fabrefas plays for a team that can be considered the best soccer team in the world.

Present Situation:
So far Fabregas has won the FA cup 2004/2005 with Aesenal. He has also won the following trophies with Barcelona; Spanish Supercup 2011, UEFA Super Cup 2011 and the FIFA Club World Cup 2011. At just 24, Fabregas is still a young player and is likely to achieve a lot in future as a player.
