German Footballer Mesut Özil

Mesut Özil is an attacking midfielder who plays for Real Madrid of the Spanish La Liga, and for the German national team. He has been a member of his national team since 2009, and he gained notoriety with an outstanding showing during the 2010 World Cup. Özil’s playing style is characterized by his willingness to provide assists to his teammates. He has played so well that he often gets compared to football superstars such as Zinedine Zidane. In addition to his passing ability, Özil is known for his ability to make powerful, long-distance shots. Also, he is often praised for his play away from the ball while on the pitch.

Özil was born in Gelsenkirchen, West Germany on October 15, 1988. He is of both German and Turkish descent. He has said that his technique and feel for the game of football can be attributed to his Turkish roots, and that his discipline and work ethic come from his German ancestry.

Mesut ÖzilÖzil’s formative years were spent playing for his hometown team of Schalke. He played for the club from 2005 until January of 2008. Unfortunately, he experienced a falling out with the management of the club, which led to him taking his talents to Werder Bremen. After playing respectably for Bremen, Özil made a splash with his stunning performance as a member of the German national team during the 2010 World Cup. Here, he played so well that he was one of ten players nominated to receive the Golden Ball award for the tournament.

After his performance in the World Cup for the German National team, many European clubs sought the services of Mesut Özil. Eventually, he signed with Real Madrid, debuting with his new team on August 22, 2010. For Real Madrid, he has played exceptionally well. He has impressed fans and football experts around the world with his stellar and intelligent play. During the 2010-11 season, he was responsible for 25 assists, which was the highest for any player during European play that season. Currently, Mesut Özil is enjoying another terrific season, and he is on the short list to receive the FIFA Ballon d’Or award.
